When we started Transparent as a printed magazine way back in 2005 we had no plan other than to write about music we loved and hoped others would want to read it. We had no idea what we were doing but slowly found our feet and started putting on nights alongside the zine. Along the way we updated to the 21st Century from paper to blog but the reason for continuing is still the same.
The song we’ve chosen to represent ‘now’ is Princes by Gang Gang Dance featuring Tinchy Stryder; an experimental art-scene group from New York teaming up with a London grime artist who gets played on Radio One. It sounds like the most unimaginable and ludicrous mix but it ends up sounding incredible.
We love everything from Biggie to Battles so the collision of genres felt so interesting and unique as soon as we heard it. The pounding, shrieking result of what happens when grime gets Brooklyn by the throat. Like Banksy making a few improvements to the Sistine Chapel.
