In the cherry orchard

What a nice peaceful picture! I’m not sure if it’s early morning or sunset but the light is soft and warm and the colors are splendid. I love cherry orchards and the fantastic colors they take when they blossom.

It probably reminds me as well of all the Tchekhov plays I’ve seen or played in over the last few years. Much to my chagrin I discovered that the Tchekhov programmation in London this winter is non-existent, but there are a couple of other exciting productions that I can’t wait to discover including Speaking in Tongues and a couple of other ones. Let me know if you have any good recommendations!

let the old times roll…

Old cameras are quite something… I’ll never forget when I tried out a friend’s manual camera for the first time.  The recoil was an amazing feeling as I pressed the shutter down to capture that moment.  It’s such a shame how much it costs overall and time it takes.  That is unless you have a negative scanner.  Which some people have managed to make themselves!

This is creative but turns into something emotionally and curiously painful. So… scrambled or poached?

Joker card

A flash gun on your camera can leave such a great dent in the texture of the subject if done correctly.  One of the common mistakes is to fire off a flash directly at something, which done closely will look poor and like a flash grenade has gone off in your subjects face.  Try avoiding this and instead try bouncing the light off walls, ceilings or other people’s faces (I jest, I jest).  You’ll get a beautifully lit up piece that will be the envy of all your friends.

One of the common mistakes people do with the flash is in crowds from a distace trying to take a photo in the dark with their pocket camera and using leaving their flash on, which just lights up the air infront of them.  Your goal (pun intended) is to light up the subject, not what you’re going to breathe.

I can only guess this is supposed to be of the ghosts from Pacman, done using a long shutter speed to capture light movement.

Right now… is kinda now-ish.

Hey.  It’s been a while since I’ve posted and I hope no one is too annoyed with me about it.  I’ve been busy working late and not able to give you all the amount of love I’d really like to.  Where I work, we’re busy staying in late trying to get things together so that the new site and platform is out of this world.

So I’ve searched for something to put up here and share with you.  Sharing how I feel right now… a kind of certain dark and drained moody photo was what I’d really like to have used.  However, looking through the photos there was nothing of that sort.  All your photos burst with colour and vitality.  So I figure the above photo kind of fits my realigned mood.  You guys cheered me up through photography, so thanks.  It means a lot.

Reflections are wonderful things… the black and white in this photo makes it seem timeless too.
